Pictures of Denver in the 1950's

I found these two pictures from the 1950's of the Denver downtown area. It is interesting to see the buildings as they were sixty years ago.

Pig Pen Truth

Pig Pen Truth
By Donna Schlachter

Do you remember Pig Pen? He was the little kid in the comics who always had a dust cloud surrounding him. Everywhere he went, the dust cloud followed him. And when he left, some of the dirt was always left behind.
It’s the same way with us. Living in this world can make us dirty. We pick up all sorts of dis-ease -- worry, distrust, anxiety. And this dis-ease affects our heart. We must wash the cares of this world away with the pure, living Water of Jesus Christ. In Luke 6:45, Jesus tells us that good things come from a good heart, bad things from a bad heart. The words that come out of our mouths are the reflection of what’s in our heart. Do you have a problem with cursing? Complaining? Gossip? That’s because you have heart trouble.
How do we get healed? Take it to God. Second Corinthians 5:17 tells us: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” Once we are able to cast away whatever is tainting our heart, we must fill it with God’s Word, and His plan for our lives. If we do this, there won’t be any room for Pig Pen’s dirt to come back.
God, please cleanse my heart of anything that is not from You. Fill me with Your love and power. Amen.

Good evening readers,

I'm featuring a 1950's photo of the lobby of the Denver Police Department headquarters on 13th and Champa.

The building is still in existence in Denver.

Special thanks for Sgt. Chris Hoag and the Denver Police Department for their invaluable assistance in the research of this project and permission to reprint this photo.

Welcome to HiStoryThruTheAges

Welcome to HiStory Thru The Ages. You may wonder about the clever spelling of HiStory: it’s actually a contraction of His Story, communicated to you through various forms of fiction, including short stories, novellas, and full-length novels.

Today as we launch this blog, we have several goals: instill a love for HiStory while we explore God’s passion for His people thru time. To do that, we plan to offer tidbits of information, pictures, and a weekly devotional.

Because HiStory is a very big topic, we’re going to start with the 1950’s and focus on Denver, Colorado, and branch out from there. Don’t despair -- for those who think the 1950’s is too current, there are some wonderful factoids about this period and place to broaden your horizons.

We’d love to hear your comments, and look forward to getting to know you better.
